1 Corinthians 15:7-8
The context
Paul is answering Corinthians who denied a bodily resurrection. He recites a sequence of appearances, beginning with Peter and the twelve, then a group of more than five hundred, then James, then the apostles. He places his own encounter last, outside the sequence, as an anomaly.
What it establishes
It establishes that the resurrection was claimed as a multiple-witness event rather than a private vision, and that Paul's own authority rested on an appearance he did not seek. It also implies that James came to believe.
What it does not establish
It does not describe the appearances. No mode, location, or duration is given for any of them, including Paul's. The phrase untimely born is obscure and variously explained, and the list is a summary rather than a transcript.
