1 John 4:14
The context
The letter's central test of spirits is being applied. The writer has told his readers to test claims about Jesus having come in the flesh, and has grounded love in God's prior action. Verse 14 states the content of the apostolic witness in a single sentence.
What it establishes
It establishes that the letter treats the mission of the Son as the Father's sending, and that the scope of the saving is the world rather than a group already marked out. The verse is one of the letter's clearest statements of purpose.
What it does not establish
It does not explain how the world is saved. The sentence names the Savior and the sending and stops. The letter speaks elsewhere of propitiation and of blood, but this verse does not combine those images, and it does not describe a mechanism.
