The context

Hezekiah has reopened and cleansed the temple his father had shut, and this chapter describes the first sacrifices of the restored order. Priests, Levites, singers with cymbals and harps, and the assembled congregation are all assigned a part. The verse notes that the worship continued for the duration of the burnt offering, and that everyone present took part.

What it establishes

It establishes that worship in this tradition is corporate, ordered, and sustained: music, sacrifice, and assembly held together for a set period rather than left to spontaneity. The whole body of people is the subject of the verb.

What it does not establish

It is not a liturgy to be copied. The Chronicler writes a highly stylized account of an ideal king's reform, and the details belong to that portrayal. The verse gives no instructions about instruments, order of service, or who may lead worship.

Short note, first pass, October 2026. Corrections welcome.
