The context

Paul is closing the letter with a warning and a self-description. The Corinthians have demanded proof that Christ speaks through him, and he answers by pointing to the pattern of the cross rather than to displays of strength. Verse 4 applies that pattern to himself.

What it establishes

It establishes that weakness and power are held together in one pattern, and that the pattern is Christ's before it is Paul's. The resurrection is attributed to God's power, not to a capacity Jesus retained in himself.

What it does not establish

It does not promise that weakness produces power automatically. Paul says he shares the pattern; he does not say the sharing guarantees the outcome in this life. The letter elsewhere describes his weakness persisting, and the verse is a statement of alignment rather than of exchange.

Short note, first pass, October 2026. Corrections welcome.
