The context

Paul's Areopagus speech contrasts the creator of all things with the temples of Athens. Verse 24 has just said that God does not dwell in shrines made by hands. Verse 25 draws the inference, and verse 26 continues it by grounding human unity in a single origin.

What it establishes

The verse establishes a reversal of ordinary religious logic. Deity is not served by hands as though anything were lacking, because deity is the source of life, breath, and everything else. The claim is about direction of dependence, and it is stated as a definition of the creator.

What it does not establish

It does not say worship is unnecessary. The verse denies that God needs service; it does not deny that service is owed. Nor does it argue that temples are wrong in themselves; it argues that a building cannot house the one who gives life to all.

Short note, first pass, October 2026. Corrections welcome.
