Acts 22:3
The context
Acts 22 records Paul's speech from the steps of the barracks, after a riot in the temple courts. He addresses the crowd in Hebrew and recounts his upbringing, his training, and his persecution of the church. Verse 3 is the biographical summary that opens the defence, and it leads directly into the account of the Damascus road.
What it establishes
It establishes that Paul claimed Jerusalem upbringing, formal instruction under Gamaliel, and strict ancestral observance. He presents his credentials as continuity with his hearers rather than as a break from them.
What it does not establish
It does not confirm the details independently. The speech is Luke's composition of Paul's defence, and the Gamaliel link appears only here in the New Testament. The verse reports what Paul said he was, which is not the same as a verified curriculum vitae.
