Colossians 2:9
The context
Colossians 2 warns against philosophy and empty deceit, circumcision language and ascetic rules. The letter answers teaching that seems to have ranked Christ among powers or treated him as one mediator among many. Verse 9 states the counter-claim directly, and verse 10 draws the consequence for the readers' own completeness.
What it establishes
The claim is maximal: not a portion or a reflection of deity, but the fullness of it, and dwelling in him bodily. Whatever the rival teaching allowed Christ, the letter will not have him placed on a scale.
What it does not establish
It does not state the later two-natures formula. The verse does not use the technical vocabulary of the councils, and "bodily" is one word whose force is debated: the incarnate body, or the church as his body. Nor does it explain how deity and humanity coexist.
