Galatians 6:2
The context
Galatians 6 closes the letter with exhortations. Verse 1 has just told the spiritual to restore a person caught in a trespass with gentleness, and warned about self-examination. Verse 2 follows immediately, and verse 5 later says each will bear his own load, a tension the passage does not explain away.
What it establishes
The verse establishes a communal obligation that is described as fulfilling a law, and the law is named as Christ's. The burden in view is whatever weighs a person down, and the instruction is addressed to those who consider themselves able to help.
What it does not establish
It does not define the law of Christ. The phrase appears only here, and the letter does not spell out its contents. Nor does the verse limit burdens to the moral or the material; the context moves from a trespass to support for teachers in verse 6.
