Genesis 1:21
The context
This is the fifth day, when the waters teem with living creatures and birds fly above the earth. The verse uses the specific verb for creating, which the chapter reserves for a few points in the sequence. It is followed by the blessing to be fruitful and multiply.
What it establishes
The account attributes the origin of sea life and birds directly to God, and it treats their abundance as intended rather than accidental. The goodness formula is applied to them as it is to the rest.
What it does not establish
It gives no mechanism and no chronology. The verb asserts divine agency without describing how, and the chapter's day sequence cannot be converted into a geological timetable without importing a purpose it does not have.
Short note, first pass, October 2026. Corrections welcome.
