Hebrews 10:12

The context

The same argument, restated with the image of the priest's posture. The writer has just contrasted the priests who stand daily with a figure who has offered a single sacrifice. Verse 12 adds the detail that he sat down, a position no levitical priest took in the sanctuary.

What it establishes

It establishes that the work is presented as complete, and the sitting is the sign of it. The image is drawn from the psalms and carries a claim about status as well as about rest, since the seat is at the right hand.

What it does not establish

It does not mean nothing remains to be done. The same chapter goes on to speak of waiting for enemies to be made a footstool and of a future judgment. Completion of the offering and completion of everything else are distinguished in the letter itself.
