Jeremiah 32:17

The context

Jeremiah is confined in the court of the guard while Jerusalem is under siege. He has just bought a field at Anathoth as a sign that houses and land will again be bought in the land. Verse 17 is his prayer over the deed, naming God as maker and ending with a confession of unlimited power.

What it establishes

It establishes that the prayer is grounded in creation: the one addressed made the heavens and the earth, and therefore nothing is beyond him. The confession is made at the moment the prophet is acting on a promise that looks impossible, which is the point of the prayer.

What it does not establish

It does not establish that every desired outcome will occur. The verse states a capacity, not a promise about the prophet's wishes; the answer includes the city's fall. Nor does the phrase settle how prayer and providence relate.
