John 11:6

The context

Word comes from Bethany that Lazarus is ill, and the sisters send for Jesus. He says the illness is for God's glory, then stays where he is for two days before proposing the journey. The disciples object, fearing the crowds in Judea, and Thomas expects to die with him.

What it establishes

It establishes that the delay is deliberate within the narrative. The narrator tells readers what the characters cannot yet see: the waiting is part of the sign that follows, not neglect or inability.

What it does not establish

It does not generalize God's timing. The verse explains one delay inside one story whose outcome is disclosed in advance. It gives no rule for interpreting delay elsewhere, and the narrative's own point is that the disciples could not read the situation correctly until later.

Short note, first pass, October 2026. Corrections welcome.
