John 12:26
The context
Spoken just after the grain of wheat saying and the announcement that the hour has come. Jesus has said that whoever loves his life loses it, and the Greeks who came looking for him are still in view. Verse 26 adds a promise about honor from the Father to the command to follow.
What it establishes
It establishes that service is defined by location: the servant is where the master is, and the following is spatial as well as ethical. Honor from the Father is attached to that company rather than to achievement.
What it does not establish
It does not say where that place is. John has been speaking of death, glorification, and departure in the same breath, and the verse does not resolve which of them the location names. Whether it means the cross, the community, or the Father's house is left open by the text.
