John 17:24
The context
John 17 is the prayer that closes the farewell discourse, spoken before the garden. It moves in widening circles: the Son's own glory, then the disciples he was given, then those who will believe through their word. Verse 24 is the last request in the middle section of the prayer.
What it establishes
The verse establishes that the goal of the disciples' calling is presence and sight, not merely instruction. It is phrased as a desire, and its content is that they be where he is and see the glory given him before the world's foundation.
What it does not establish
It does not define what that glory is or when it is seen. The prayer asks; it does not describe the state it asks for, and it does not settle whether the seeing begins now or at the end.
