John 9:35-38

The context

A man born blind has been healed, interrogated by the Pharisees, and expelled from the synagogue for defending Jesus. Hearing of the expulsion, Jesus seeks him out and asks about belief in the Son of Man. The man answers, and the scene ends in worship.

What it establishes

It establishes a movement from physical sight to recognition, and it places worship of Jesus at the end of that movement. The healed man becomes the Gospel's example of seeing.

What it does not establish

It does not supply a full christological formula. The title in the question is Son of Man, and some manuscripts read Son of God, a variant worth knowing. Nor does the passage say the man understood what his confession entailed; the narrative gives the act of worship, not an explanation.
