Luke 10:22

The context

Luke's version of the same thanksgiving, placed after the return of the seventy and before the lawyer's question about eternal life. The seventy have reported that demons submit to them, and Jesus rejoices in the spirit. Verse 22 follows his statement that the Father has handed everything over to him.

What it establishes

It establishes that Luke, like Matthew, preserves a saying in which the Son's knowledge of the Father is exclusive and is the means by which others come to know him. The saying is one of the clearest points of contact between the two Gospels.

What it does not establish

It does not decide who the Son chooses to reveal the Father to. The verse says the revelation is his to give and names no condition. Whether the choosing is arbitrary, or grounded in something in the chosen, is not addressed, and the surrounding verses do not settle it.

Short note, first pass, October 2026. Corrections welcome.
