Luke 24:45
The context
The upper room on the evening of the resurrection. Two disciples have returned from Emmaus with their report, and while they are speaking Jesus stands among them. He eats broiled fish to prove he is not a ghost, then reminds them of what he had said about the law, the prophets, and the psalms.
What it establishes
It establishes that understanding the scriptures is described as something given rather than achieved. The same chapter has already shown the Emmaus walk, where the text was expounded at length; here the opening of the mind is named as a separate act.
What it does not establish
It does not describe a method of interpretation. Luke reports the result, not the technique, and gives no rules for reading. Anyone who claims this verse for a particular hermeneutical system is adding to a sentence that names an effect and stops.
Short note, first pass, October 2026. Corrections welcome.
