Luke 24:46-47
The context
The risen Jesus appears to the gathered disciples, shows them his hands and feet, and eats in front of them. He then opens their minds to the scriptures and summarizes what those scriptures said. The verse gives the content of that summary, and the ascension follows.
What it establishes
It establishes that the death and resurrection of the Messiah were read as scriptural rather than as an interruption of the plan, and that repentance and forgiveness are to be proclaimed beyond Israel. The mission's scope is explicitly all nations.
What it does not establish
It does not name the texts. Luke says the scriptures were opened but does not record which passages were cited, and the early church's list must be reconstructed from elsewhere. Nor does the verse settle how the fulfillment of a text was understood to work.
Short note, first pass, October 2026. Corrections welcome.
