Luke 4:43

The context

Jesus has healed many at Capernaum, including Peter's mother-in-law, and the crowds have tried to keep him from leaving. He withdraws to a desolate place, and when they find him he refuses to stay. Verse 43 gives his reason, and the next verse has him preaching in the synagogues of Judea.

What it establishes

It establishes that Jesus's movement is presented as purposeful rather than reactive: he leaves because the message must be carried elsewhere. The necessity named is a constraint on him, not a preference among options.

What it does not establish

It does not say the message was only for others. The verse explains a departure without dismissing the town he left, and Luke has already shown him healing there. The sentence states the scope of the mission, not a judgment on the people he had just helped.

Short note, first pass, October 2026. Corrections welcome.
