Matthew 11:22
The context
Matthew 11 records John the Baptist's question from prison, Jesus' testimony about John, and then woes on the towns where most of his works were done. Verses 21–24 compare Chorazin, Bethsaida and Capernaum with Tyre, Sidon and Sodom. Verse 25 then turns to thanksgiving for what is hidden from the wise.
What it establishes
Judgment is graded, and privilege increases exposure. Towns that saw the works and did not repent are told they will fare worse than notorious pagan cities. The comparison assumes that what a person has been shown is part of what they answer for.
What it does not establish
It does not specify the grades. The comparison is rhetorical and its mechanics are left unstated; nothing here describes the nature or duration of the judgment. Nor does the verse say what happens to those who never saw such works.
