The context

This is inside the Olivet discourse, where Jesus answers questions about the temple's destruction and his coming. He has just said that no one knows the day or the hour, not the angels and not the Son, and he now reaches for an analogy from the flood story to describe ordinary life continuing until interruption.

What it establishes

Jesus uses Noah as a pattern for unexpected judgment arriving during routine activity. The comparison is about timing and unpreparedness, and it is told to explain why the day will catch people unaware.

What it does not establish

It does not settle the flood's extent or the timing of the coming. The verse assumes the story's outline without adjudicating geology, and it explicitly refuses to supply a date for what it describes.

Short note, first pass, October 2026. Corrections welcome.
