Philippians 1:11
The context
Paul's prayer report in the letter's opening asks that the readers' love abound more and more with knowledge and discernment. Verse 11 gives the purpose of the prayer: a life filled with the fruit of righteousness, which he immediately traces to Jesus Christ rather than to the readers.
What it establishes
It establishes that righteousness is described as fruit, which is to say a product of something already living, and that its source is named as Christ. The goal stated is God's glory, not the believer's standing.
What it does not establish
It does not say how the fruit is measured. The verse names a quality and an aim without giving a standard or a list. The letter's later chapters supply concrete examples, and this sentence by itself supports no particular test of who is producing the fruit.
