The context

Revelation 21 follows the judgment scenes and the thousand years, and it opens with the new heaven and new earth, the city coming down, and the declaration that God will dwell with his people. Verse 5 is spoken by the one seated on the throne, and it is followed by a command to write and by the promise that these words are trustworthy.

What it establishes

Renewal, not replacement, is the claim. The verb is to make new, not to make new things, and the object is all things. The speaker is the enthroned one, and the command to write gives the sentence a public, documentary character. The vision's consolation is that the making is underway.

What it does not establish

It does not say when or how. The verse gives no timetable and no mechanism, and the surrounding vision is not a schedule. Nor does it by itself settle whether the renewal is entirely future or partly present.

Short note, first pass, October 2026. Corrections welcome.
