Revelation 4:8

The context

John's vision moves from the letters to the throne room. Chapter 4 describes the throne, the rainbow, the twenty-four elders, and four living creatures full of eyes. Verse 8 gives their song, which takes up the cry of Isaiah's vision and adds the note of what is coming.

What it establishes

It establishes that the worship of heaven is presented as unceasing and addressed to the one on the throne, and that the threefold holy is the center of it. The addition about the one who was and is and is to come ties the praise to God's relation to time.

What it does not establish

It does not establish a doctrine of the Trinity from the threefold repetition. The threefold form comes from Isaiah's seraphim, where it is a superlative, and reading it as a numerical hint is an inference the text does not make. Nor does the verse describe the creatures themselves as divine.
